WHAT IS A HOUSE CONCERT?

A house concert is not a party in the sense most people know the word party. It is a seated concert that provides an opportunity for our guests to hear live music in a friendly, intimate, home setting. Usually there is a pot luck between sets and is a place in which to share a casual fun experience; a place to meet the performers, become acquainted with their music (if you have not heard them before), and learn some of the background behind the songs.
WHY AT OUR HOUSE? We open our home to friends and neighbors because we like to share great music with them. Hosting house concerts allows us to hear musicians and songwriters we have limited knowledge of, reacquaint with those we've heard at other house concerts and help introduce their first-class talents to you. Additionally, it gives us immense pleasure to share their music and hopefully farther their names in the music world and keep them doing what they do and love.
WHAT DO WE GET OUT OF THIS? We receive no economic benefit from the house concerts. The benefit we do receive is the joy the music and gatherings bring to us and our home. 100% of the suggested donation goes to the performers.
DOES IT COST US ANYTHING? Yes, it costs us a few $'s. We rent chairs, provide ice, water and some food, paper and plastic goods. It also costs us time and wear and tear on the house. But the benefits of having a group of people who appreciate the same music we do, far outweighs the money and other costs.
WHAT DOES IT COST YOU? There is a recommended cash donation of $15-$20 per person depending upon the distance the performer(s) travel to get here and the number of people in the group.
WHAT ABOUT THE NEIGHBORS? We invite our neighbors and encourage them to attend. As a courtesy to them, we plan our gatherings for weekends only, either Friday evenings, Saturday afternoons or evenings or Sunday afternoon. No performance runs later than 10:30 p.m.

We do request that you be considerate and only make a reservation if you plan to attend as it is only fair to the performer that we maximize attendance in order for them to make it worthwhile to play a house concert for us.
NOTE: These are ADULT ONLY events. Invitations are limited to 60-70 people so we encourage you to RSVP early. You will need to confirm prior to the performance in order to hold your reservation. Address and how to get in thru the gate will also be given to you at that time. If you have any questions or need to cancel, please phone or email us as soon as possible. Last minute reservations will be accepted as space allows. No drugs of any kind allowed, chocolate excepted!
Because our house is a hillside location, the house is not wheelchair accessible and there is a steep driveway to walk up and numerous steps to climb to enter the house. Parking is at the street level and only on one side of the street in case emergency vehicles need to gain access to the canyon.
Please note: "Canyon House Concerts" is the name we have chosen to describe our private gatherings. These gatherings are NOT a business nor are they a business-related activity. They are a way for us to enjoy listening to some of our favorite musicians, and are gatherings of our friends and guests to enjoy live acoustic music, fellowship, food (a potluck and/or dessert buffet) and fun. Our house concerts are officially free (or else it might be considered a business), although voluntary contributions (suggested donation of $15-$20 per person) are accepted to pitch in for the cost of the performers. 100% of all contributions go directly to the performers.
